The Czech Republic has developed a fintech ecosystem that reflects the sophistication of its financial services market — one of the most developed in Central and Eastern Europe. Prague hosts a growing number of fintech companies across wealth management, investment platforms, lending, and payments, with the Czech National Bank providing a clear regulatory framework under EU directives.
Czech wealth tech has been a standout category. Portu, Fondee, and Investown have built investment platforms that have introduced ETF investing and property crowdfunding to a Czech retail investor base that was previously limited to bank savings accounts and domestic mutual funds. The growth of these platforms reflects both rising Czech incomes and a generational shift in financial behaviour toward self-directed investing.
The Czech fintech market benefits from its position as a gateway to the broader CEE region — companies based in Prague often expand into Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary, leveraging the cultural and linguistic proximity of these markets. The Czech Republic's high internet penetration, strong engineering talent base, and relative economic stability make it an attractive base for fintech companies targeting the Central European market.
